Basic Blackjack Logic
Many of us play online blackjack primarily for fun, but also with the hope of also making some nice profits and at least hitting some weeks and months when the casino is the loser. However, what are the best ways of trying to profit from blackjack (without developing professional card counting power)?
1. Strategy
Can you win at blackjack using the basic blackjack logic? When I say basic logic, I'm referring to simply aiming to hit for cards until your hand has a decent score and you don't want to risk over-shooting 21 and busting (for instance, a hand of '15' may 'look good', so your stand). Well, of course this approach is sensible and will deliver some winning hands and even sessions. However, it has zero statistical power and therefore plays directly to the casino's edge! You need to start playing with basic strategy to stand a chance of limiting the house edge. Once the house edge is lowered to average levels of 0.5 – 1%, that's when a little luck turns your sessions into winning ones. Find a decent basic strategy chart, use free-play options to learn the fundamentals, and then take on the dealer for real.
2. Budget
The other key to strategic blackjack success is money management and budgeting. While it's very important to focus on gaming with leisure cash that you can afford to potentially lose (or rather spend having fun) – focusing on two key budgeting factors will help you immensely:
Level stakes > It's critical to your potential blackjack success to use a level credit value (for example, 1 credit = 0.10, 0.50 or 1.00 etc). Level stakes will prevent loss chasing and help strategies to work efficiently.
Credit liability >Use a low level of blackjack liability by setting a low credit size (for example 1 credit = 0.5% of your bankroll). Volatile credit sizes can play mayhem with your blackjack strategy power.
3. Profit levels
Many recreational blackjack players find they're capable of hitting some quite impressive winning sessions and weeks in the casino – the combination of luck, skill and strategy and perhaps a little dare from time to time! However, most of us have been there when everything seems to be going great guns – you're winning more than you're losing and the bank is looking pretty hot; however, then the dealer strikes back and before you know it you've placed some silly blackjack bets and your profit is gone, as well as some of your original bankroll!
The main problem tends to arise when you're a relatively casual gamer whose bankroll has gotten fairly impressive (although this will be relative to the individual) - then every little loss seems to hurt more and more! The solution is often to set yourself a modest profit target and bank your winnings if and when your attain it.
For example, a blackjack gamer may start the month with a bankroll and budget of £100, and then set a profit target of let's say £500. If the £500 target is reached, you withdraw £400 and re-start with a bank of £100. Strangely enough, for many blackjack gamers, this strategy is more likely to deliver profits than trying to build a huge blackjack bankroll.

While the fundamental basis of blackjack comprises the goal of forming a combo as close to 21 as possible by hitting for cards until your hand is crafted to perfection, simply making 'logical guesses' about when to stand plays to the dealer's advantage. What's more, since it's so easy to play with proven statistics – there's really no excuse. Check out the easiest blackjack strategy moves available:
> Hit up to 17+ or soft 18, when the dealer card is 7 or higher > If the dealer holds 6 or fewer, hit until you're at 12+ > Double-down on 10 or 11 if the dealer has a 9 or less > Split aces and 8's but play other combos normally
The full basic strategy
If you want to take your blackjack to more advanced levels and lower the dealer's advantage to something like 1 - 0.5% - then you need to apply a genuine basic blackjack strategy (simply the statistical rules for every possible hand). Check out a diluted version below;

> Hit on 8 or less
Double-Down
> Double down on 11, unless the dealer has a ace > Double down on 10 if the dealer holds 9 or lower > Double down on 9 when the dealer has 6 or lower
Soft Hands > Stand on soft 19 and soft 20 > Double down on soft 13-18 if the house has 4,5, or 6
Splitting > Split aces and 8's. > Don't split 10's, face cards or 5's > Split 3's and 2's if the casino holds 4,5,6, or 7
